ADB President briefed on BISP’s key initiatives
ISLAMABAD: Masatsugu Asakawa, the President of the Asian Development Bank, recently visited the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to review its efforts in delivering cash assistance, promoting school enrollment, and supporting maternal and child health in Pakistan.
During his visit to the BISP Tehsil Office in Taxila and the Benazir Nashonuma Centre at Wah General Hospital, the ADB President was briefed on BISP’s programs and their effects on education, health, and the welfare of the most vulnerable households.
Accompanied by an ADB delegation, President Asakawa received a detailed briefing from BISP Director General Naveed Akbar.
The briefing highlighted BISP’s major initiatives, including Benazir Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, Nashonuma, and the Undergraduate Scholarship Program.
The visit also offered a closer look at the operational procedures of the BISP office and its facilitation center.
During the visit, BISP’s Director General emphasized the importance of international partners like the ADB in supporting various social protection programs in Pakistan.
He also outlined BISP’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about healthcare services such as immunization and childbirth care, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and address school dropouts.
