Karachi Schools Add Saturdays to Offset Rain Disruptions

After days of weather-related closures, private schools in Karachi resumed classes on Thursday, but students face a revised timetable aimed at regaining lost learning hours.

All Private Schools Management Association Sindh (APSMA) Chairman Syed Tariq Shah announced that Saturdays will now be observed as teaching days. He said the decision is a direct response to academic losses caused by prolonged rain and flooding in the city.

“Children cannot afford repeated breaks in their education. Saturdays will help balance the disruption caused by weather emergencies,” Shah stated.

Karachi witnessed torrential rains this week, leaving large swathes of the city inundated. Rising water levels in Malir and Lyari rivers, coupled with blocked drains, left many neighborhoods stranded. Residents also struggled with damaged infrastructure and impassable roads.

The Sindh government had earlier suspended classes across public and private schools on Wednesday following the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rain and thundershowers.
