Pakistan, GGGI expand climate action cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI) Country Representative Ms. Laura Jalasjoki in Islamabad to discuss new avenues for cooperation in climate action.

GGGI’s global role

Jalasjoki outlined GGGI’s work with 51 member countries, highlighting its mission to help nations transition toward low-carbon, climate-resilient economies. She emphasized the organization’s focus on inclusive green growth as a pathway to long-term sustainability.

Pakistan’s priorities in green growth

Dr. Malik said Pakistan’s climate agenda centers on solutions that deliver both adaptation and mitigation outcomes, particularly in climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture. He underlined the need for partnerships that deliver measurable results for resilience and sustainable development.

Carbon markets and financing tools

Both sides discussed the role of carbon markets as a financing mechanism for green growth. Malik stressed the need to address gaps in the viability of carbon market mechanisms and welcomed GGGI’s technical support to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity in this area.

Future cooperation

The meeting also explored opportunities in agriculture and nature-based solutions. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with GGGI and other global partners to accelerate its transition to a sustainable and resilient economy.
