Pakistan welcomes US acknowledgment of TTP threat
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed its appreciation for the United States’ acknowledgment of the threat posed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to international peace and stability.
During his weekly press briefing in Islamabad today (Thursday), Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan emphasized that Pakistan-US collaboration on counterterrorism remains uninterrupted and will persist in the future.
Addressing the recent US-imposed export restrictions on Pakistani commercial entities, the spokesperson remarked that such unilateral and politically motivated actions undermine the objectives of global export control mechanisms. He added that these restrictions hinder legitimate access to technology necessary for socio-economic progress.@pakistan sports board complex
When questioned about a bill introduced in the US House of Representatives concerning Pakistan, the spokesperson clarified that it represents the initiative of a single legislator. However, he asserted that Pakistan believes the bill’s timing and context do not align with the current positive trajectory of Pakistan-US relations, which are based on mutual respect, understanding, and non-interference in each other’s internal matters.
The spokesperson expressed hope that the US Congress would continue playing a constructive role in strengthening bilateral ties and prioritizing areas of mutual cooperation that benefit both nations. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constitutional governance, the rule of law, human rights protection, and freedom of expression, underscoring that democracy is a fundamental pillar for progress and prosperity.
Shafqat Ali Khan also raised concerns over a series of raids conducted by Indian authorities on the residences of All Parties Hurriyat Conference members in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that these actions are aimed at suppressing dissent and intimidating the local population. Calling on Indian authorities to halt such repressive measures, he urged them to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of Kashmiris, including their right to self-determination.
The spokesperson also welcomed the recently agreed-upon limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which prohibits attacks on energy infrastructure and guarantees safe navigation in the Black Sea. He commended the active role of the US administration in facilitating this agreement and expressed optimism that these initial steps would pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.
