SIGNAL-FREE CORRIDORS IN LHR, KHI & ISBD, ABDUL ALEEM KHAN
Morocco: While addressing the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety currently underway in Morocco, Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization and Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan stated that over the past five years there has been increase of 25% in traffic pressure at National Highways, however with effective measures and recent policies, road accidents have decreased by 50% while the rate of injuries and fatalities has reduced by 30%.
He mentioned that Pakistan has a road network extended over 493,000 kilometers which includes 14,400 kilometers of National Highways and 2,500 kilometers of Motorways.
SIFC promoting economic growth, global partnerships
In his address, Federal Minister for Communications informed the 193 countries’ delegates attending the three-day Global Conference that the present Government is implementing various road safety and health-related initiatives, urban planning policies and environmental improvement measures. Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted the development of signal-free corridors in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad and efforts to provide immediate relief through rescue services and air ambulances in case of road accidents.
Federal Minister for Communications further emphasized that Pakistan is committed to the projects of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), CPEC and Gwadar as well as projects like the North-South Transport Corridor and the Pakistan-Middle East Project are also of main interest for our country.
He also praised the holding of the Global Conference in Morocco and expressed that at such platform different countries would be able to share each other experiences and get benefit out of them. Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan thanked the Morocco Government and Minister of Transport, Abdessamad for their exceptional hospitality in the beautiful city of Morocco.
During the ongoing 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Morocco, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan held meetings with Ministers from various countries and World Bank Directors. In a meeting with Qatar’s Minister for Transport Sheikh Muhammed Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Federal Minister stated that Qatar holds a unique economic, political stability and prominence in the region.
He offered opportunities for investment in various sectors in Pakistan and proposed the promotion of Business-to-Business and Government-to-Government activities between the two nations. Federal Minister also called on World Bank’s Global Director for Transport Nicolas Pielter and Global Head for Safety Said Dahdah.
During these discussions, Abdul Aleem Khan informed them about the significant improvements being made in Pakistan’s transport sector through Public-Private Partnerships and new tasks being assigned to enhance safety on Motorways and Highways in Pakistan. He mentioned that the performance of Pakistan’s Motorway Police is on par with any developed country while security measures are being further tightened to ensure safe journey for all passengers. In the meeting with Qatar’s Minister for Transport, Sheikh Muhammed Bin Abdullah Al-Thani assured full cooperation from the Qatari Government while World Bank Directors Said Dahdah and Nicolas Pielter discussed the recent progress in Pakistan’s transport sector.
