Pakistan tightens grip with 202-run lead against West Indies

MULTAN: On the second day of the Multan Test, Pakistan finished their second innings at 109 for the loss of three wickets, extending their overall lead to a commanding 202 runs against the West Indies.

Captain Shan Masood played a key role in the second innings, scoring a well-crafted 52 before being run out, while Mohammad Huraira added 29 runs. Babar Azam managed only five runs before being dismissed, while Kamran Ghulam (9 not out) and Saud Shakeel (2 not out) remained at the crease when play ended. Earlier, the West Indies were bowled out for a meager 137 runs in their first innings, giving Pakistan a 93-run lead. Jomel Warrican (31) and Jayden Seales (22) were the top scorers for the visitors. Pakistan’s spinners dominated, with Noman Ali taking a brilliant five-wicket haul, Sajid Khan claiming four wickets, and Abrar Ahmed contributing with one wicket.

In Pakistan’s first innings, they scored 230 runs, with Saud Shakeel’s superb 84 and Mohammad Rizwan’s determined 71 anchoring the total. For the West Indies, Jayden Seales and Jomel Warrican each took three wickets, while Sinclair and Motie shared the remaining breakthroughs.

The second day’s play began with Pakistan losing their remaining wickets quickly, but their spinners took control of the game. Sajid Khan was especially lethal at the start, taking four quick wickets to dismantle the West Indian top order. Noman Ali then capitalized on the pressure, dismissing five more West Indian batters, while Abrar Ahmed completed the innings by removing Jayden Seales.

As Pakistan enters Day three of the first Test with a strong lead and seven wickets in hand, they hold the upper hand in this exciting contest, leaving the West Indies with a monumental challenge to stay in the game.
