PTCL Improves Internet Speed, Meta Services May Face Peak Hour Slowness
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) provided an update on the AAE-1 submarine cable issue, stating that the addition of extra bandwidth has significantly improved the internet speed. However, the telecom company mentioned that users may still experience slowness on Meta-related services (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram) during peak hours.
PTCL added that a complete resolution is expected soon, with both the PTCL and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) working to resolve the issue. Last week, the PTA confirmed that disruptions were caused by a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar, which is one of the main undersea cables connecting Pakistan to international internet traffic.NA Body Questions PTCL for Selling its Properties
To mitigate the issue, the PTA had incorporated temporary bandwidth into the system and is working on rerouting an additional 200 gigabytes per second. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also confirmed that 630 gigabytes per second of affected traffic had already been rerouted. Despite these efforts, the internet slowdown, which has affected freelancers and many users, continues to raise concerns among the public and lawmakers.
