In a statement released on Saturday, she underscored that public health remains a top priority, and the government will guarantee that no shortage of resources hampers progress. “Our goal is to create a better environment in public hospitals, one that surpasses private clinics,” the Chief Minister stated. She added, “We aim to enhance every hospital so that every patient receives free treatment and medication.”

The Punjab government has introduced several groundbreaking health initiatives, such as Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital, which incorporates China’s advanced cancer treatment methods, including “No-Chemotherapy, No-Surgery.” The Cardiology Institute in Sargodha, which is nearing completion, will be the region’s first heart care facility. Additionally, the Clinic-on-Wheel and Field Hospitals are benefiting over 6.8 million patients by delivering essential healthcare services to both urban and rural populations. Punjab has also become the first province in Pakistan to formally introduce the life-saving Air Ambulance service, while transforming Basic Health Units (BHUs) into Maryam Health clinics, ensuring modern healthcare access in rural areas.

Over 2,800 hospitals have been upgraded across Punjab. Field hospitals have treated 950,000 patients, conducted 60,000 X-rays, and performed 135,000 lab tests, along with providing ultrasound, first aid, and maternal and child health services. The Clinic-on-Wheel services have reached 6.7 million patients in urban areas, with a team of doctors, LHVs, vaccination staff, and ultrasound services.

To tackle the shortage of specialist doctors in district hospitals, the government has introduced a special package. Plans are also in place to gradually establish cath labs and cardiology centers in district hospitals.

Through the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program, free treatments and surgeries for children with heart diseases have been launched, reflecting the government’s dedication to the welfare of vulnerable populations.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed that the government’s efforts are focused on ensuring that public hospitals provide services that are superior to private clinics, delivering free and high-quality healthcare to every citizen of Punjab.
