Zong Expands its Footprint in Gilgit Baltistan with Launch of 59 4G Commercial Sites

Gilgit: Zong, Pakistan’s leading cellular and digital services provider, has officially launched its network in Gilgit Baltistan, marking a significant step forward in the region’s digital advancement. The launch event took place at the prestigious Gilgit Serena Hotel and featured esteemed guests, including Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Minister of Law and Tourism for the Government of Gilgit Baltistan, who served as the chief guest.

Held on September 27th, the event celebrated the commercial activation of 59 4G sites across the region, with plans for further expansion in the coming year. Zong’s entry into Gilgit Baltistan aims to empower local communities, enhance connectivity, and foster socio-economic development in the area.

Distinguished attendees included Miss Suraya Zaman, Advisor IT for the Government of Gilgit Baltistan; Mr. Gul Abid Wazir, Zonal Director of PTA Gilgit; Mr. Ehsan ul Haq, Assistant Zonal Director of PTA Gilgit; Lt. Col. Muhammad Ali Ahmed, Commanding Officer of the Special Communication Organization (SCO); and Riaz Ahmad, Secretary IT for the Government of Gilgit Baltistan. Their presence emphasized the strong collaboration between public and private sectors in enhancing digital infrastructure in the region.

Khawaja Shehzad Ullah, Executive Director of Sales & Distribution at Zong, emphasized the importance of connectivity, stating, “We are excited to introduce Zong 4G’s high-speed internet to Gilgit Baltistan. This launch underscores our commitment to bridging Pakistan’s digital divide, empowering local communities, boosting tourism, and fostering economic growth through our advanced technology and expansion initiatives.”

Mr. Huo Junli, CEO of Zong, expressed gratitude to the teams that made this expansion possible. In his message, he noted, “By enabling 4G services in Gilgit Baltistan, Zong is not only bridging connectivity gaps but also propelling Pakistan’s digital transformation. We are proud to empower local communities, support tourism, and contribute to a more connected future for Pakistan and the surrounding region.” He also thanked Zong’s strategic partner, the Special Communications Organization (SCO), and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) for their crucial role in facilitating the deployment of advanced communication networks in Gilgit Baltistan.
