5th Day of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s China Visit

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, visited Huawei Technologies’ headquarters in the Bantian area of Shenzhen’s Longgang district, where she received a warm welcome from Huawei officials. During her visit, she held discussions with Huawei’s Government Affairs Director, Mr. Wang Chengdong, focusing on initiatives to transform Lahore into a modern digital city. Key topics of discussion included e-commerce, ecosystem and ICT infrastructure development, and the digitalization of the health and education sectors.

Madam Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing by Huawei President Wang Chengdong about the company’s ongoing projects in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab. She expressed great interest in Huawei’s contributions to the health and education sectors and discussed the ongoing Safe City projects across Punjab. She pledged to make Lahore Pakistan’s first fully modern smart city with Huawei’s support and invited the company to expand its investments in Pakistan, especially in Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif assured Huawei of government support for setting up offices and after-sales service centers throughout Punjab. “The vision of Digital Punjab will be realized with Huawei’s cooperation,” she stated. She emphasized that Punjab’s first AI university would benefit significantly from Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications and digital transformation.

She highlighted Huawei’s role in capacity building and IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City, expressing her commitment to introducing Punjab’s youth to the latest digital technologies through Huawei’s collaboration. She also stressed Huawei’s assistance in ecosystem development, underlining its importance for the province’s digital advancement.

Madam Chief Minister noted that Lahore’s first Safe City project was successfully launched in partnership with Huawei. During her visit, she toured various sections of Huawei Technologies to observe their operations and advancements.
