1061 Pakistani Doctors Secure US Residency

Staff Report
Islamabad: In a historic achievement, 1,061 Pakistani doctors have successfully secured residency positions in the United States (US), marking the highest number of Pakistani physicians to achieve this feat in a single year.

President of PM&DC, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, congratulated the doctors who secured US residency positions. He noted that their impressive performance exemplifies the high standards set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) in overseeing medical education in the country, as well as the strength of its curricula and training programs. He reaffirmed PM&DC’s commitment to developing academic excellence among doctors and described this achievement as the beginning of a transformative journey toward further improvements.

He added that PM&DC has played a crucial role in guiding Pakistani medical and dental colleges to establish robust curricula and comprehensive training programs, aided by a rigorous system of checks and balances.

Prof. Dr. Taj highlighted that this milestone is significant for Pakistan’s medical education, reflecting its improved standards and growing international recognition. He emphasized that the US residency application process is highly competitive, requiring candidates to demonstrate exceptional academic performance, pass the demanding United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), and navigate an intense application process involving interviews and detailed documentation. Only the most dedicated and resilient candidates succeed in this rigorous selection process.

Some esteemed institutions producing the highest number of doctors achieving US residency positions include King Edward Medical University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Dow Medical College, Shifa College of Medicine, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), and Khyber Medical University.

Prof. Dr. Taj further emphasized that this success aligns with PM&DC’s vision to enhance medical education and prepare future healthcare professionals to meet global standards. As these graduates enter the medical field, they carry the legacy of their institutions and the assurance of receiving a quality education that will serve them and their patients well.

The World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) has recognized PM&DC, taking a significant step toward improving the standards of medical education in Pakistan. This prestigious acknowledgment not only reflects the quality of PM&DC’s educational frameworks but also opens up substantial opportunities for Pakistani doctors and graduates to thrive on national and international stages.

With WFME recognition, graduates have enhanced credibility and acceptance in the global healthcare community, enabling them to pursue advanced training, residency programs, and career opportunities worldwide.
Dr. Taj’s vision is to empower graduates and aspiring doctors to excel not only within Pakistan but globally. The mission is clear: to equip future healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to make a significant impact in the field of medicine, both nationally and internationally.

The success of these 1,061 doctors sends a powerful message about the upward trajectory of medical training in Pakistan. It is a promising sign for the future of healthcare, locally and globally, as more Pakistani physicians contribute to international medical systems, bringing compassion, knowledge, and cultural diversity to the field.
